It all started when…
my dad brought home my first CD. Celine Dion’s “Falling into You” album was the first I remember being mine. I poured over the front insert to learn all the lyrics to every song. When no one was home, I danced around the living room using the TV remote as a mic, belting out the ballads.
“THERE WERE NIGHTS WHEN THE WIND WAS SO COLD!”
I would yell as I shivered from the depths. Feeling the coldness Celine was singing about all the way to my bones.
I continued to memorize lyrics and sing often. At a sleep over, my friends and I performed our own version of “Earl Had to Die,” my brother and I had a version of “Black or White” with some pretty cool dance moves, and I performed “Ice, Ice, Baby” at talent shows. I felt like a very cool middle schooler when I finally mastered all the lyrics to “Slim Shady” and “Baby Got Back.”
I absolutely love to karaoke and would do it whenever, wherever. One night in college while studying for finals in a room sometimes used for events, a mic was left on. A full on performance of “Wicked” took place with that hot mic, replacing that study time.
I started bringing my own mic to the bars to karaoke (it was gold), and for a while became “the girl with the gold mic.” But I didn’t just want to karaoke on weekend nights at the bar, and thus the dream of The Good Mic began.
I created The Good Mic (she’s also known as Stay Gold Karaoke, and The Gold Karaoke Room), to bring the joy of singing to unexpected places.
I still find great joy singing. Now, with The Good Mic, I can bring this joy-machine on wheels to any location to share that feeling of joy with others.
I’d love to get creative and partner with people who want to spread some joy in this world.
Got and idea? Want to chat? Reach out and let’s connect. The world can use more joy, and we can be the ones to bring it.
